Fiancé(e) Visas
A fiancé(e) visa, also known as a K-1 visa, allows a foreign fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen to enter the United States for the purpose of getting married. Once approved, the visa grants entry to the U.S. on the condition that the couple marries within 90 days of arrival. After the marriage takes place, the foreign spouse can apply for a green card, becoming a lawful permanent resident.
The K-1 visa is designed to help couples begin their lives together in the U.S., but it requires proof of a genuine relationship and evidence that the couple has met in person within the past two years. Because the process involves multiple government agencies and detailed documentation, working with an experienced immigration attorney will help avoid delays and common mistakes.
